Bally Mackellar Jazz Night

On Monday night the Bally Jazz Bands played to a packed house at the inaugural Bally Mackellar Jazz Night. It was a brilliant evening that showcased the great talent of the musicians at Bally and Mackellar.

Our Junior Improvisation Ensemble played their own renditions of Mr PC and Chameleon, with each student taking a solo - this is an amazing feat considering the group have only been working together since the beginning of this year! The Stage Band followed with St Thomas, Georgia On My Mind and Rollin’ With the Punches, featuring some amazing solos from each section of the band.

The Saxophone Quartet performed Three Shades of Blues with impressive technical skill, while the Senior Improvisation Ensemble wowed the crowd with rousing renditions of Straight No Chaser and Stolen Moments, with each solo watched in awe by the audience. The Jazz Orchestra closed the night with Cute, Backatown and Dance to the Music, all of which exceeded the high standard of entertainment set by the evening.

A big thank you to Mackellar Girls for hosting the evening, and to Ms Stokes for organising the night. Congratulations to all performers!
