Position Vacant – BBHS Casual Canteen Assistant (Part-time)
The BBHS P&C Canteen Committee is looking to employ a part-time casual Canteen Assistant to work predominantly 3 days (Weds, Thurs, Fri) during term time to start immediately. Hours are usually 8 – 2pm, but could vary as required. If you have experience in a busy team environment, working in a healthy food canteen, operating Flexi-schools and love seeing Balgowlah Boys happily fed – then this is the role for you!

Position Description: Casual Canteen Kitchen Assistant
Purpose of the position
The Canteen Kitchen Assistant assists the Canteen Manager and Canteen Assistant in the operation of the school canteen according to the policies and procedures of Balgowlah Boys Campus P&C Association.
Canteen policy
The Balgowlah Boys Campus Canteen’s aims and objectives are to:
• provide balanced and nutritious food in line with the Fresh Tastes Strategy as detailed by the Department of Education;
• provide a service to students, staff and the school community at a reasonable cost, that is able to generate an income stream for the Balgowlah Boys Campus P&C Association.
Relationships
This position works closely with the P&C Executive, the Canteen Manager, Canteen Assistant, students, staff and school community.

Extent of Authority
• has authority as directed by the Canteen Manager;
• exercise a degree of autonomy to achieve objectives of the position.
Key Responsibilities
• providing a high standard of customer service by assisting students, staff and other customers in food selection via input to the canteen menu;
• ensuring that canteen areas are clean, sanitised and ready for the next day’s activities;
• contributing to a pleasant working environment for the volunteers;
• assisting in the security of the canteen in things such as money, locking all doors and windows, switching off all appliances (except refrigeration units) and restricting entry to the canteen to only those authorised to be there;
• cleaning incidental to the function of the canteen, such as dusting shelves and stock, wiping down work benches, cleaning of implements (including ovens), fixtures used in the immediate work area;
• ensuring that food safety is upheld and correct food handling and hygiene practices are performed;
• assisting with over the counter service during recess and lunch;
• assisting with the training of new volunteers in their duties
• supervising volunteers in food preparation;
• ensuring volunteers are taught to correctly use equipment;
• preparing food as directed by the Canteen Manager;
• any other duties as requested by the Canteen Manager.
