Bally Boys Basketball Program Conditions of Participation
Developing brilliant boys through exceptional teamwork and great coaching that inspires the school and local community
Before you register to play basketball at Bally, please read Conditions of Participation below. You will be asked to agree to these as part of your registration.
To All Bally Boys Basketball Participants
Under the guidance of our Head Coach, Ben Knight, and our volunteer basketball committee, we are in the process of implementing plans to make the Bally Boys Basketball Program one of the best and most inclusive government schools sporting programs in Australia. To join us in achieving this, we are asking our young athletes and their parents (or guardians) to be aware of what is expected from you and what you can expect from the program.
Team & Program Commitments
A training schedule will be provided for your team. At this stage, all local competition teams will have one training session per week. These sessions are all structured trainings aimed at improving all aspects of the boys’ basketball ability – skills, set plays, game strategy, strength and conditioning and teamwork.
Weekday trainings are optional. We would encourage all boys to attend with a view to developing skills and team dynamics.
Game/play/court time will be allocated by the coach based on several factors – skill level, ability to listen to and work with their coach and teammates, showing up to and putting in at training.
The skill training provided by our professional coaches is a privilege and highly recommended. Any player being disruptive or not putting in effort during training will be asked to leave to preserve the training for those who are committed to their team and coach.
You are a school representative and with this comes a responsibility – to compete with courage and respect, support your teammates (win or lose) and commit to improving yourself.
We respect all referees and their decisions. No back chatting or abuse of officials will be tolerated.
Any member of a Balgowlah Basketball Team intentionally using physical force or power- threatened or actual - or verbal abuse, against another person will be reviewed for possible suspension or expulsion from the team with no refund. This includes but is not limited to before, during and after games and training.
You are responsible for getting to games and training sessions and, where applicable and able, share the transport load with other parents.
I agree that if my son cannot make a game, we will give notice to the team manager as early as possible.
Fees
I understand that there are fees associated with this program and agree to pay these fees by the due date.
I understand that all fees must be paid in full to participate in the program.
I understand all fees paid via the school go directly to coaching and competition fees for the semester and that that no refund available should my son be unable to play due to injury, illness or leaving Balgowlah Boys’ Campus.
Risk Warning and Waiver
Basketball is a fast-moving sport and as with all sports there is a risk of injury associated with playing basketball. I authorise Bally Basketball volunteers and coaches to take all steps they consider to be reasonably necessary to protect the welfare of my son in the event of personal injury, including the administration of any emergency medical treatment and ambulance transportation.
I acknowledge that in the event of personal injury occurring during play or training, any related costs, both immediate and ongoing, are my responsibility. Balgowlah Boys Campus and the Bally Basketball Program do not have insurance to cover any injury to my son.
To the best of my knowledge, my son has no medical condition, disability or injury, which places him at risk while participating in this activity.
I understand that the physical exertion required to participate in basketball may activate or aggravate a pre-existing medical condition. I understand that it is my responsibility to decide, with professional medical guidance if appropriate, whether my son should join the Bally Basketball program.
Both my son and I understand the scope, nature and extent of the risks involved in the recreational activity and ensure that he will never be under the influence of any drugs, alcohol, illegal substances or anything else which may impair his ability to safely engage in the recreational activity. Any violation of this rule will result in the immediate termination of your son’s participation without a refund.
I consent to have my sons’ image (photo and video) used for training and promotion purposes within the program and on the Bally Boys Basketball website www.ballybasketball.com Please check the website to see examples of images we use.
If your child has anaphylaxis, they will have their own labelled EpiPen (epinephrine autoinjector) with them at all trainings and games.
I agree to release, discharge and forever hold harmless NBSC Balgowlah Boys and Bally Basketball volunteers from all liability, obligation and responsibility of any nature whatsoever for any losses, damages or injuries of any type relating to, touching upon or arising directly or indirectly from my son’s engagement in the Bally Basketball Program.
This Release shall extend and shall apply to all conduct of any nature whatsoever of Bally Basketball including, without limitation, the circumstances where the facilities pursuant to which the recreational activity takes place were not fit for purpose or because of negligence, breach of contract, statute or statutory duty by NBSC Balgowlah Boys and Bally Basketball volunteers and coaches.
By participating in the recreational activities, you acknowledge, agree and understand that the risk warnings contained above constitute a ‘risk warning’ for the purposes of the relevant legislation, including for the purpose of section 5M of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW).
